Social clubs have forever been engrained into the lifestyles of people looking to celebrate common interests and ways of being, as a community. From the New York ball scene of the 1980s to London and Berlin’s distinguished fetish parties, Melbourne too has been host to truly illustrious and unique forms of nightlife for over 30 years.
'Until the Night is Over' examines a niche clubbing culture happening in Melbourne’s after hours; one which often goes unnoticed, yet flourishes with life. It follows a group of people that gather on the first Sunday of every month for an event built on the ideals of sexual liberation and uninhibited freedom of expression.
Each month artists from all walks of life collaborate and showcase their work through experiential pieces and performances. While making this project, I sought to discover the ethos that connected this particular contemporary Australian scene with historical and global communities of liberation.
